As a person who had never been a real big coffee drinker I bought the Mr. Coffee DRX20 12-Cup Coffeemaker with good intentions. Well some of them came through for me and some of them did not. The first thing I need to explain is that while I am not a big coffee drinker my husband is.

I actually bought this machine for my husband before we got married. His more expensive unit had broken down and while I had wanted to be generous I thought I would make him proud if I bought a good quality product and still managed to save money. Well I this case we got what we paid for.

It is a good looking machine and it was affordable so I thought it would be a good product to purchase. I also thought the name Mr. Coffee would certainly only be attached to the best of coffee makers. The biggest problem with this machine is the fact that it leaks.

My husband is no slob but he is not exactly a neat freak either and I was not surprised the first few times that there was water on the counter around and under the coffee machine. However when it started to happen every time he made coffee, I started to fear that I would have to make coffee for him each morning.

I decided one morning after being tired of the mess on the counter, that I would make the coffee. I placed the coffee filter in the basket as it is indicated, tried to figure out how the top filter was supposed to go and got in place the right way.

Well not only did I get water on the counter behind the machine while filling the machine with water, I actually ended up making a much greater mess than my husband ever had.Before I knew it I was standing in brown water in the kitchen. The machine had made to regurgitate the water I had fed it and covered the counter, the kitchen floor, and my feet with dirty looking water.

Well so much for showing him how to make a pot of coffee without making a mess. I have determined that it is impossible to use this machine without making a mess.

Don’t get me wrong I do not think this machine is no good, I just think that it is not exactly the easiest thing to fill. I do have to admit that when it is not in use and the mess has been cleaned up it still looks good on the counter, which honestly is how I bought it in the first place, so it would look good in our kitchen. It also has an easy to use automatic cycle but that does not help the matter of trying to fill the machine up. My husband says the coffee is kept hot, and I have to say I have always been happy about the way it turns itself off, but I just wish it would be easier to fill.

When she first told me that if I wanted to sell the home that I would have to remove l the clutter from the kitchen, I figured that I was just out of luck, because I simply cannot do without my coffee.

In no time my coffee pot was under the cabinet and off of the counter. I made my first pot of coffee with it and was particularly fond of the fact that it had a 12 cup capacity. Anyway I could not have been happier and I had to agree with my realtor the kitchen looks so much cleaner and organized, and the black machine blended well with my cherry cabinets.

Well to make a long story short, I sold the house the very next weekend. I thought the coffee machine looked so good I left it there for the new owner to enjoy and another one was my first purchase for my new home. I have been using that machine for a while now and am very happy about this machine.

If I was forced to find anything wrong with the machine the only thing that I would say is that I wish it did not use paper filters, but rather had the capacity for a wire basket. My only other comment would be that it is easier to hang with a second set of hands then to try to do it yourself. The second time I hung it I had help of my wife as opposed to the first time when I did it by myself.

I usually don’t write in reviews in such depth but I felt compelled to share my experience with you and those consumers considering an under the counter coffee machine. One of the downsides to this machine is its very small opening for the water though on the flip side the features and its price tag are certainly very likeable. If you have been looking for a large coffee maker then this is certainly a good option.

Some of its strengths include its tough carafe and thick glass as well as of course the twelve cup size. It is well made and the carafe lid in particular helps to prevent steam burn while you are pouring the coffee out. In addition, it is a machine that fits size four cone filters and the aluminum finish is attractive and with a price tag of less than forty dollars you cannot ask for more.

The downsides are mostly quite minor and include the smallness of the water reservoir which can lead to over spilling when you are filling the tank.
